The Mighty Hands
In the still of your hands, anything can happen now
with every beat of my heart; love speaks in silence
In the still of your hands, anything is possible
With every beat of my heart
(Jason Wade)
Family day outs, BBQ’s, mall
lounging or road trips. Everyone’s gonna be discussing how they spent the five
days off. My days off were rather different. It was a time for reflection. My
uncle in Sri Lanka is in critical condition lying on a hospital bed and another
close uncle from our church passed away.
During these holidays, I’ve been
reliving memories with these uncles. They are both so fragile, so sweet, such
inspirations, role models and its sad that one of them has gone and the other
in such a condition. My Dad's relationship with my grand-Uncle in Sri Lanka is like that of a best friend and not just an uncle.. Having no kids, he always had his
doors wide open when we went for our annual vacation to Colombo. He and aunty ran a “Home for the Handicapped”
and as a kid I was then inspired by their commitment to these children. I last
visited uncle in July 2010 and was saddened by his condition. To see such a
bright face sick was not easy. But I know he is safe, because his life is in
the precious hands of God.
As for the uncle who passed away
last Wednesday, Rozy & myself were in shock as we received the news. Ever since we moved to UAE in 1993 - Uncle was always so cheerful and there was a mutual sense of "family" & "togetherness" amongst us. . We had
just seen him two days back in church. His face was so radiant & beaming
with joy as he hugged my sister & I telling us he was feeling better. He
even wanted us to inform Mom & Dad not to worry and thank them for their
prayers. I guess he was at peace knowing he was in the hands of Jesus.
How mighty are those hands? The
powerful hands of God scattered stars in the sky. Shot up trees on earth.
Bloomed flowers on the grass. And filled up the oceans and rivers with water
ever so deep. Who can fathom how great and everlasting God is? Have you seen
the mountains that stand with pride? Or seen the colours of a rainbow after a
storm? Do you understand that? Has it occurred to you that those same things
were all formed by the hands of God? The hands that are holding each of our
worries, each of our burdens and every tear drop down our cheeks?
See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power, and he rules with a
mighty arm. – Isaiah 40:10
Here I am at a position in my
life where right about now, I need to be worried sick, pacing around like a
nervous wreck. But instead I am waiting on the Lord for this beautiful &
precious thing to spring up. Because he has promised me through his word it
will all come to pass. Day after day, he unfolds promise after promise. And
there is only one thing he wants me to do - Trust him and give it all to him.
Ok, technically that’s two things, but you get what I mean!
Humble yourselves, therefore,
under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast
all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. – 1 Peter 5:6-7
God does not want you to worry.
He wants to handle that situation at work, that broken relationship, the family
you miss, the slipping grades, the addiction you need to quit, the family you
wanna start, the job you are waiting for…whatever it is. He needs control of it
in His hands. But you need to take that step towards Him, place the worry in His hands and trust Him. That’s faith!
Do not be anxious about anything,
but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
requests to God – Philippians 4:6
These uncles have inspired me
over the holidays and I couldn’t have asked for a better break!
Approach HIM
today and place those worries in His hands. He is waiting for you…
God bless you guys…
Gino.
