Need a lil "POP" in my life!

So it was just another Friday evening, lazing around at home – Rozy and me figuring out how to start off the long weekend. We were thinking of all possible things to do; (a) Movies – nothing good playing, (b) Sheesha – didn’t feel like it, (c) Dinner - wish there were things to do in Dubai besides eating, (d) Shopping – I would say I’m in a resistance program to control my spending habits. So, we ended up just relaxing at home – experimented with some cooking, caught up on all the TV serials, did a bit of reading & studying, the usual “Facebooking” and then thought I’d watch my Ch[V] Playlist AGAIN!

So a couple of months back I realized that I’m kinda sick and tired of the music these days. Everything is either Rap or Trance, R’n’B or Rock. Now, don’t get me wrong – I really dig some of the current artists but I just miss listening to some good ol’ pop music! So what’s wrong with watching four guys dressed in pure white suits moving across the stage lip syncing a cheesy tune? Nothing for me! I miss boybands. The Jonas brothers are the only ones who popped into my head who are out there today coming close to even being a boyband. So getting back to my Playlist – I requested Ch[V] to play these songs from some of my All Time Fave Boybands and they did!

As the evening continued on Friday, I youtubed (if that’s a word!) literally all the 90’s Pop groups - their videos, interviews, live performances on Top of the Pops etc. From Westlife to Backstreet Boys, Hanson, Blue, Atomic Kitten, Boyzone, A1, S Club 7, Girl Thing, Steps, 5ive, 911, N’Sync, B*witched, Take That and even the Spice Girls!

Rozy and me were recalling stories of each concert we went for, our “Crazy Westlife Phase” (not forgetting to include Nithya & Shradha!), buying Smash Hits Magazine every week, hanging posters and how most of the songs brought back a memory of two from yester year. Michelle had started a habit of recording music videos & live performances from artists she’d like ever since she was a teenager and when she grew out of it – Rozy & I took over. Well the time came when we lost interest in it as well and today we have approximately 45 cassettes of some good pop music from the early 90’s to maybe 2002! I wish I could fly to Colombo and open the box full of these old tapes (crossing my fingers they’d work!).

While having lunch the other day, I was flipping channels and to my surprise, Ch[V] were airing more 90’s Pop Classics in a new show called ‘Back Tracks’. And I love it. So, like Mr. Alan Y who enjoyed my playlist from some other part of this world, I’m quite sure there are more of you guys out there too. And don’t bother about being labeled as “Uncool” if you fancy one of these cheesy songs, it’s your life - so listen to what brings a smile to your face!

Mmmmpop…taaa!
