The Pink Note
Last week, my sister’s colleague was diagnosed with Breast Cancer - Stage 4. She is just 26, building up her career and soon to be married. She showed no symptoms at all but the cancer has been in her for just over a year now. Doctors have given her a year to live as it has now spread.
After hearing about this, I’ve been so lost in thought about it. If only she found out a couple of months earlier, treatment would’ve stopped it spreading. But no – I guess God has his own timings. She has accepted it rather well, not once has she questioned “Why” is it happening to her. And all she is concerned about is the prevention of it for others which leads me to my post.
We all know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I couldn’t wait for October to blog about this so here goes. It’s all Pink - the city is pink, we wear pink ribbons for awareness, attend the Pink Walk and donate for research & prevention of this disease. But how much do we actually do about it? How many of you have actually been checked? Have you convinced the women you know to sign up for a mammogram? Or how about a self examination test? I know it’s scary. The thought of being tested for a disease freaks anyone out. But think of it this way, if detected early – there are ways you can be cured. I suggest everyone do their part – find out more, convince one another to be tested and together we can battle this disease. Let’s not be another victim but let’s fight this thing. Get tested…you can examine yourself.
As for the young girl who inspired me to do my part, I will continue praying for a miracle. I believe God's word in final and not the words of a doctor. They may say a year but none of us know God's timing. Miracles happen, I stand a witness to that. Do pray for her strength and courage as she fights this.
There is hope...
May God help the girl.Last year one of my uncles was detected with intestinal cancer. His wife and kids lost him within a span of 5 1/2months.No matter how many people you see with cancer it still freaks you out and makes you wonder about life.
ReplyDeleteOh my! I know, that's so sad. And the worst part is we don't know what causes it yea? It can happen to anyone. All we can do is pray and use the wisdom God has given us to prevent it.
