Be The Difference
I was
really ticked off in an incident that occurred in the office today. My temper
almost hit that boiling point and I started counting to ten to stay calm. My
rage shot up because it was something so petit which got my colleague blowing
her fuse for no apparent reason. I came home and narrated the whole incident to
my folks via skype and then something my dad mentioned caught me off guard. He
said “That’s
where you are different from her/him.”
All this
time I’ve been thinking about how I need to respond as a Christian to such
situations but I missed something so simple which was the root cause of my
anger. The misunderstanding lies in the fact that I am different. I can’t blame
these people and pen my anger on them; because their whole outlook on life is different
from mine. Our whole perspective to life differs and that gets in the way of
how we act and expect others to respond.
I have made
decisions where I have walked the complete opposite direction to some of my
friends because I just can’t think of walking the path they choose. And again, I
don’t mind being different, it’s alright! I may not be in the “cool” crowd. People
may label me as weird or a “Jesus Freak” but I think it’s kinda cool being
different. I am different for Christ!
Just the
other Sunday, the sermon focused on how we are ordinary people living ordinary
lives and yet can bring an extraordinary difference to someone’s life. I
recalled this message as I sat down thinking about what happened in office.
There I was; just ordinary me doing ordinary work but I think I handled it
quite cool which is extraordinary – I could’ve said things I would regret later
but instead I displayed the love of Christ.
We being
Christian stewards here on earth need to take more responsibility in our daily
lives and act imitating our Father above. We need to take that stand on being the
“Difference” for which He gave His life on the cross. Yes, we are ordinary like
everyone else but at the same time we are called to be different. We are to be set
apart from the rest.
Be different enough to change the world.
Different to be kind, compassionate & slow to anger.
Different not to judge but to love.
Different enough to be just like Jesus.
Songs
always speak to me and its funny how “Opposite Way” by Leeland and “The
Difference” by Hillsong happened to keep playing this past week on my iPod. Do
have a listen!
You are the difference in us
You have broken the past
And set us apart
You caused the darkness to end
You lifted our heads
To know You again
Lord You bring us to life
In You our hope will arise
The Difference by Hillsong
