Obeying God
I was awoken one morning as my
heart beat to thoughts of certain sins. Here I am always trying to be a better
person by ridding away anything unwholesome and not pleasant in the eyes of the
Lord. But what puzzled me was whether this certain “doing” was a usual tendency
of human nature. I felt it might not be right as I owe at least that much back
to God.
So yes, there might be a set of
rules and guidelines which we have to follow being “Christian”. But we should
not be compelled to follow these commands. What drives us to obey God should
come out of love. The minute we indulge in something we know isn’t right &
is unworthy to God, is that very moment that we love the world more than God.
“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves
the world, love for the Father is not in them” – 1 John 2:15
That’s when we are giving prior
importance to what the world wants from us and not what’s in God’s heart. God
has set a certain standard for us, honouring that standard should come out of
love for Him; not compulsion just because there is a set of rules we have to
follow. I would say it is that automatic feeling of love we express by not
giving in to the needs of the world but obeying the words of our Master.
I also think that obedience to
God is something personal to each one of us and we should not compare ourselves
with one another. Submit your lives to God as to how he wants you to obey him.
Do not pattern your ways of life according to what the current trend is, God
works uniquely in each one of us. Remember, you are in a relationship with God,
not the world or not your entire Facebook friends list. Live your life to how
God is calling YOU.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test
and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will” –
Romans 12:2
God spoke to me very clearly later
that morning. Obedience is a never ending lesson, something we need to keep
following as we walk with Christ. Just when we think we’ve learnt it all, there
is a whole new set of rules to follow. Look forward to how God introduces these
new guidelines and use it to transform your life. And most of all, obey God because
you love Him.
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” – John 14:15
Its beautiful what u wrote. I remember reading a article where the father of my nation Gandhi was interviewed about Christianity in India. The person who interviewed asked Gandhi do you think that Christianity will prevail in India? Gandhi said, Yes it will but only if you use the center force of Christianity. The person asked what do mean?! What is the center force of Christianity. Gandhi said Its Love.
ReplyDeleteSo true what u said and i believe Love must be the bottom line in all the things that we do..
Shalom
